blog > everything is my fault

It happens from time to time. We tell ourselves “everything is my fault”.
But is it though? I bet it isn’t.
Yup, once in a while things go south. And we beat ourselves up about what we did or didn’t do and how we could have prevented things from going the way they did. And we feel like everything’s our fault.
But if we look at the facts, reality is different.
First of all, when you made the decisions related to the event/situation, did you have all the info available? Did you really know everything? If you made what you thought were the right decisions based on the information you had at the time, you did the best you could. None of us can know everything let alone see the future. So the best we can do is make good decisions based on whatever information we have at the time.
Second, I guarantee you there were things that you didn’t have control over. Events and other people’s decisions. Unless you believe you’re god, you can’t blame yourself for everything. Anything that was out of your control that contributed to the event or situation turning out the way it did is not on you. How can it possibly be???
So the next time you think “everything is my fault”, take a breath. Look at the facts. Do they support your negative thoughts/feelings? Probably not. Most likely they say the exact opposite.
Stop beating yourself up.
